Filet Mignon and Frog Legs

 Hello everyone!

This is my second week here in Spencer, Tennessee. Overall, this has been a good week. I am starting to get to know the people in the area. As I said last week, the members in this ward love to feed us. We got fed a lot this week, so I had the opportunity to try new foods. People here love to serve pies and cobblers for desert. It is unfortunate though because I don't really like either of them. Although, I am still trying to enjoy it when they give it to me. I tried fried okra, which is actually really good. I also went to another house that fed us filet mignon, frog legs, potatoes, and banana pudding. I had never tried filet mignon or frog legs before, but they both tasted delicious. If you are curious, frog legs taste like a lot like fish. Anyways, that was a lot of fun.

This week we had a few lessons and found a few people. Nothing out of the ordinary. I have noticed that the people we teach have a lot of difficult struggles in their lives. I don't think I can even share a lot of the trials that they face. I just hope they can find that peace they are seeking for through Jesus Christ and his gospel. We have just recently started creating a new way to find more interested people to teach. It will focus more on talking with members in the ward. We receive a lot of help from them, but we are planning to find those we don't talk with as much.

This week has been difficult more for me in a lot of ways. I definitely feel all of my biggest weaknesses as a missionary. I would like to share some of the things that have helped me work through it. Life is like filet mignon and frog legs. Sometimes in life, we get the best and other times the difficult. No matter what we get though, if we have the right attitude, they can both be for good. I have grown so much from the good and the bad this week.

Whenever I feel down, I first pray to God for peace, comfort, and strength to continue on. I can testify that I have felt that throughout this week. I have felt the presence of God in my life and his strength has helped me a lot. I am extremely grateful for that. I also talked with my trainer and explained my struggles. He helped me by sharing his experiences and helped change it. I also studied the scriptures which directed me how to feel peace during difficult times. I think the reason we are commanded to study the scriptures is more than learning or obedience. It is our personal connection to God. As we study the scriptures daily, we can understand and come closer to him. I would just like to say that no matter what struggles in our lives we are experiencing, He wants to be there for us. We just have to listen and search for it it.

You will get what you seek, so seek good
Elder Oram
